Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Instructor Questions
- What is LearningClues?
A: LearningClues is an ed-tech startup that uses generative AI to create adaptive learning experiences for adult and higher education, personalizing content to meet individual learner needs. - How does LearningClues work?
A: LearningClues personalizes educational content based on each learner’s progress and understanding, ensuring they receive the right challenge and support to succeed. - What level of effort is required of the instructor team?
A: LearningClues has been designed to minimize logistical tasks. With the instructor’s permission, LearningClues automatically ingests the materials made available for a course and indexes them to provide a series of applications that benefit student learning. The material ingested can include documents in the course LMS and, if available, class recordings and open education textbooks. - Can I add LearningClues to my Canvas course page?
A: LearningClues is currently in a pilot stage and unable to accommodate additional courses for the fall 2024 semester. If you are interested in adding LearningClues to your course for a future semester, please indicate your interest at https://learningclues.com/. You will be contacted to setup a meeting. - How does LearningClues help me as an instructor?
First, LearningClues does the work of collecting and curating all the content in your course, which can save you time over systems that require you to manually upload your content. Second, if you have included in your syllabus as much detail as possible to answer potential student questions (e.g. “What percent of my final grade will be from exams?”, “When are office hours?”, “Is there a penalty for missing class?”), your volume of logistics questions can be reduced. Likewise, if you add content to Canvas that provides support for commonly asked questions, students will be able to get answers online. - How do I initiate LearningClues in Canvas for my course?
Once LearningClues has been added to your LMS, an instructor in the course needs to click the “LearningClues” link once first to initiate LearningClues in the course, which will launch an opt-in screen with usage terms. Students cannot access LearningClues until an instructor has initiated LearningClues and agreed to the opt-in term
Student Questions
- What is LearningClues?
LearningClues is an ed-tech startup that uses generative AI to make study time more efficient. You can ask questions and receive responses based solely on what has been discussed in class or available in documents available in Canvas. - When I click on LearningClues nothing happens. How come?
A: If the LearningClues link does not work, that indicates that the instructor has yet to initiate LearningClues for the course. - How does LearningClues use my conversation and other interaction data?
A: LearningClues does not share individual personally identifiable data, including your personal conversation content or associated LLM prompt data, with anyone else, including the course instructor(s) or other students. Any prompt data sent to an external AI provider is protected from re-use for retraining or other purposes by our data use agreements with those providers. In a few cases, non-personally identifiable interaction data may be processed internally to our system in order to generate class-facing features such as frequently asked questions, but these will be based on anonymous aggregated data, not individual data. Explicit anonymous student feedback on system responses, or implicit feedback based on interaction events such as clicks, may be used internally to improve the system’s interaction and response quality.
